jelly filled Holly blossom

I finally got the Chookie's bed quilt finished! At last! The wee pet has been so patient. The pattern is the Thimbleblossoms Jelly Filled. It's supposed to be for a jellyroll but I had a fat quarter bundle siting around that was in the perfect colourway (Sandi Henderson's Ginger Blossom) and it worked well.
The backing is more Ginger Blossom but this time in a cosy flannel. Leftover blocks came in very handy piecing it!
The binding is a Kaffe Fasset print. I was going to use the pink solid I used for the small border but decided at the last minute I wanted a red. This was an accidental find and I'm glad I went for it - the quilt can take the strong colour but the pink print stops it being too bold.
Our only slight problem is the whole mid-sleeper thing! The quilt can't drape because of the safety bars so needs tucked in - which is a real pain to do when we're running out to work and school in the morning!
I've still to do a pillowcase (there's enough cherries flannel for a cosy one!) but it's very pleasing to have nothing hanging over the bannister waiting to be quilted - first time since May!

the deets:
The pattern is Jelly-filled by Thimbleberries.
The fabric is Ginger Blossom by Sandi Henderson and a light pink palin cotton. The binding is a Kaffe Fassett print.
It is measuring 53in x 70in.

  1. That's a lovely quilt Lynz, I'm sure the Chook will love it. We have the same issue with tucking in as the boys are bunk beds.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with UFO's cluttering up the bannister :D

  2. Lovely quilt - the red binding works a treat.

How lucky you are not to have any UFO's, I've got loads to finish.

  8. Looks fantastic Lynz (pouts in jealousy! LOL) Been there, done that with the mid bed thing, just you try it on a full bunk! I bet Holly just loves it, and it's a good incentive to get her making her own bed too!

  10. Love the quilt for Holly - Had the Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild Executives over last week and Pat was hanging around to get some of the lovely goodies to eat when one on the ladies asked what was the next project I was doing. Before I could take a breath Pat stepped into the middle of the group and said "She is finishing my quilt!" in a very emphatic voice. Everyone laughed but he is right I need to finish it for him.

BTW I dont tuck quilts in on his bunk bed. I just fold the sides of the quilt under the top of the quilt and lay the quilt on the top of the bed. When Pat goes to bed I just shake the quilt over him and he cuddles in under all the covers.

Hi! I'll try really hard to reply to comments by email (unless you're a no-reply Blogger in which case I can't!) because I love getting your messages but I'm a working mum and don't always manage - I read and appreciate every single one!
