Zombie fishing.

So, at Lorna's request, here is the story of the Zombie Fish Necklace. *g* It has a bit of a back story, bear with me.

Chookie was always fish mad. Her favourite day out place to visit is Deep Sea World in Queensferry. So, for her 3rd birthday we bought her a Biorb fishtank and some guppies. This was 4 years ago and we've had various collections of fish since - last year we bought a wee shoal of 10 Rainbow Neons. Now, the agreement in the house has always been I do fur (the rats) and Spouse does fins (the fish). It has worked grand up until this year. *hmph* Something weird happened and we lost 9 of our 10 fish just after Christmas. And that's when the neglect started.

There is one poor wee solitary fish in there *somewhere* swimming about in its own pee. The algae has become a forest and the baby Apple Snails (all those wee black spots on the surface) are in heaven. And still our wee survivor swims on, popping out from behind the plants to feed in the evening. So, Spouse has come to the conclusion that he is actually dead. Or rather, UNdead. As in a zombie. How else could be still be alive? That is a manky tank. (please don't report us to animal welfare!)

And so to the necklace! Chook and I have a new tradition involving getting the train to Stirling, spending some money in Monsoon, nabbing a Mackie D's and coming home. Last weekend I was having trouble choosing a necklace (I wanted a new long one) until I spotted this chap.

Now I'm big on the quirkier things in life (and Native American/First Nation stuff) but when Chook exclaimed "Mummy, it's the Zombie Fish!" well, I was totally sold. Twelve of your British pounds and he was mine! Sorted.

Mid-week Mundanities.

It's that time of week again!

my general mood? Is pretty happy and contented today. No special reason, things just seem to be easy ATM - long may it continue!

what am I wearing? My favourite Next boyfriend jeans, a £3 Asda t-shirt (they fit really good!) the Zombie fish necklace (that could be tomorrow's blog) and bare feet. My toenails are bright green.

what have I been watching? Absolutely naff all. Twilight (again!) with the commentaries on and the usual Lost and Fringe.

what am I reading? Kelley Armstrong - Personal Demon. I'm only a couple chapters in, too much else going on this week!

what have I been listening to? Green Day - Minority (I pledge allegiance to the underworld! *g* ) and Billy Joel's Glass Houses album. Still an all time favourite (thank you, Daddy. x)

what have I been creating? Still knitting the shrug (half way there!) and *almost* finished the Nativity LO. I've bought new Sassafrass papers from Artbase, though, so hopefully more being sticked and glued next week.

I love my genes.

Remember a few weeks ago there was a photo of me Beloved Wee Granny celebrating her 86th birthday? Now most people think she's marvellous for her age, in attitude and looks. Especially her looks. My Mum is another who looks pretty darn fine for her age (she's Wee Granny's daughter). Well it appears I have inherited the young-looking gene from Granny. Where is this going?

I am 35 in August.

I got ID-ed in Tesco buying beer last night.
Wa-hoo!! *g* And, yes, this is a phone snapshot of me on Red Nose Day this year. I tend not to have a lot of photos of me being insanely excited but made an exception when my good friend texted me a pic of her baby bump. The great thing about the mental expression is I have NO wrinkles!! *g* Although perhaps botox would be a slightly less extreme method of face ironing. Slightly startled versus sat-on-a-cactus. *snort*

My own personal cakewreck. :(

I have a link on my sidebar to the wonderful Cakewrecks blog. I recommend a visit if you need a wee laff - remember these are "professional" cakes. As in some poor beggar paid for them (or is expected to). I can't claim to be *quite* in the same league as some of the fiascos there but I've had my first proper baking disaster.

*wails* WHAT HAAAAPENNED?!?!? I got interrupted in the middle of mixing to answer the phone but I could only have been about 3 minutes. Actually, Chookie did most of the mixing. Lets blame her. *mua-ha-ha* They were tasty, right enough, just a bit Yorkshire-puddeny in the visual stakes. Hmph.

Life in the Bahamas!

No blog for 4 days? And I was doing so well. *tut* Well, the weather was delicious here yesterday and all the Chookie wanted was a barbie. Bless her, the top was off, the suncream and sunnies on, the pink lemonade doctored as a big girl cocktail and the sausages earmarked as hers before we'd found the charcoal. Check it.

Bless her, we live in Scotland, remember? Apparently not.

We were at a lovely wedding reception last night, wee (not so!) Richard from work and the delightfully giggly Caroline. I hooked the bridesmaid back into her bra in the loos, kept an eye out for imminent boobular containment failures (there were a few girls with puppies bigger than the blankets they were fighting under!) and we sauntered home at half past midnight full of the joys of young love. And vodka. *cackles*

Had a baking catastrophe today. Pics tomorrow, I'm too traumatised to load them from the camera today.

Mid-Week Mundanities

My friend Mrs Wookie has a couple of really cool weekly lists that she does, as she says to capture a "snapshot" of daily life. So, Wednesdays always being a bit slow for general news (apart from the usual getting over Humpday-ness) I thought I'g give it a go myself. Here we go!

my general mood? Is generally tired! Too many late night last week with the Easter holidays. Even though I wasn't off work I still feel like I'm on leave when there's no school run and preparations for it! Hence the holiday timekeeping.

what am I wearing? Comfy jeans, white t-shirt and bare feet. Pretty standard.

what have I been watching? Fringe (the TV series) catching up last night and the last film I saw was Twilight - which I liked *better* than the book! That never happens!!!

what am I reading? Kelley Armstrong - Broken. Weres, vamps, celebrity necromancers and a zombie controlling Jack the Ripper. *g*

what have I been listening to? 30 Seconds to Mars - A Beautiful Lie, Bat for Lashes - Daniel, White Lies - Farewell to the Fairground.

what have I been creating? Still knitting and not a lot else! Except Sophie's book and a half finished Nativity layout.

How long d'you think those YouTube links will last?

Sophie's book.

One of the school-gate Mums has asked me once or twice before to make her a mini book for newly parented friends. Now, I'm not fond of doing work (work? How pretentious does *that* sound? Y'know what I mean though, right?) for other people but Catherine is always so appreciative that I can't say no. Anyhoo, her friend has had a baby girl (Sophie, obviously) and asked if I'd rustle up something for her. I've done books with massive tags in the past but I've finally exhausted my supply of Memory Avenue tags *pouts* so plumped for a not-quite-star-book style that I've done a couple times before and enjoyed making. So, a couple of hours stickin' an' gluein' last night and I came up with this.

I've had that adorable cover paper for *years* and the inner papers even longer (nearly 7 years, I think!) but was really happy with the end result. It's only 4x4in but big enough for the wallet size prints and has a couple journalling spots for pertinent info. Sorted.

I do wish I'd ironed the table runner before I took the photo, though! It's fresh off the rope. *tuts* Morto!
