We live in a house of fun.

A conversation at the dinner table last week.

Spouse: Have you made our appointments for the checkups at the dentist yet, Wife? (yes, he calls me Wife!)

Me: Not yet, I'll try and remember tomorrow.

Chookie: *wails* But I don't want to go to the dentist!!!

Me: *patiently* But baby, you have to go to the dentist to help keep your teeth nice! No one likes going but it's just something that has to be done. It's only every 6 months and anyway, checkups are easy blahblahblah for several minutes.

Spouse: *having been busy for several minutes* Look, Chook, if you don't go you'll end up looking like THIS!!

Me & Chookie: *laughing until we snort spaghetti all over the table*

Whit a hoos!! *grins*

a quilt-along?

In the big scheme of things this is definitely one thing I never ever thought I'd be participating in. Hell, 3 weeks ago I hadn't made a nine patch let alone a whole quilt!! However, I seem to have been bitten by the quilting bug (god help the inhabitants of my house!) and found a rather lovely already-in-progress-but-not-too-far-along-to-join-in quilt-along here at the Old Red Barn Co.

Cue lots of raking about the house for matching bits of fabric! *g* I had bought some pretty fat quarters last week with the Chookie in mind (pink puppies and yellow ballerinas - very her) and found a mismatched pillowcase and other odds and sods (some lovely stuff bought for a scrapbooking class about 4 years ago) but still had to go shopping for a couple of co-ordinated lengths. Shame. *g* Spouse was buying, too. Anyhoo, I've cut into strips and started sewing together, lots of fun and quite therapeutic. Who'da thunk it? The strips are up there (obviously). And these are the first squares I've sewn up.

It's going to be quite bright, I think. Definitely getting white sashing! And do you see the bit that needs another press? That pretty dark turquoise batik on the bottom. *rollseyes* I ironed the seam open a bit haphazardly and it will not lie down now. Anyhoo. Exciting stuff - if you like quilting. *g*

PWL - the sequel, week 2.

My images for this weeks Painting With Light course. We had fun this week, Chook and I.

Must dash, I've fabric to come out of the washing machine - giving my first decent sized quilt a go. Wish us luck! *g*

A rod for my own back.

You'd think I'd learn, wouldn't you? Chookie had asked for a baby carrier for her favourite Yoo-hoo toy. I was only happy to oblige - the machine was still out, I had a ton of fabric scraps from the quilt making efforts and it has been YEARS since I made something on the hoof. That's the finished product up there. I was chuffed, she was thrilled, we all win. Well.

Last night after school I asked had everyone liked her new carrier. "Oh yes, Mummy" she replied, "and Rachael would like a cream one with the puppies and kittens material and Olivia doesn't mind what colour hers is as long as it's different from mine and is smaller for her keyring Yoo-hoo".

Ack! *facepalm* You can be too clever it would seem. So having got her to warn the girls it might be a couple of days coming I was in the mood tonight after work and came up with these wee chaps.

Nicely modelled by Stanley Rabbit and Ricotta Q. Mousely (my Boyd's mouse from Linlithgow - thanks Mummy!!). Ricotta's is a scrap of puppies fabric I picked up on Saturday but Stanley's is my very special favourite Japanese import pink owls. :( The only other fabric I own with little animals on! Ach well, Olivia's a wee sweetheart, I don't mind if it's for her.

sports day

This is my girl winning the obstacle course at the juniors sports day today. To say we are shocked and stunned and chuffed to bits is an understatement! She got third in the egg and spoon proper, too. Go the unco-ordinated bambi legs! *grins* She was made up.

the Yummy Mummy and Kitty Kwilt.

The wonderful Miz Catriona has taken pics of her quilt. Yay! So here is "Yummy Mummy" all finished.Looks good, eh? Even if I do say so meself. *g* I'm glad I went with the patterned fabric as binding and the charcoal back is really nice. The inspiration came from this fabulous lady. Scan down the entry for her baby floor quilt.

Now, this chap is totally different. This is the "Kitty Kwilt" (thanks to Elaine at work for the name!) for Biff and baby Euan.

You can't see so well but that fabric right at the bottom of the 2nd photo has wee stars all over and the backing is a really pretty sea green with little flowers. And 2 of the top fabrics have cats all over - hence the name! The tutorial for this ragged squares one can be found here at another fab modern quilt blog.
I was totally confident Catriona would love hers, TBH I'm a bit anxious about this one. I love it (I would like to keep it - it goes so well in my living room!) but I'm unsure if Biff will. *shrugs* We shall see! I enjoyed the make and am keen to have a shot at a full size one now. Not full size bed, obviously, I'm not that confident. *g*

Whoopee!.........oh, no. Drat. :(

I was a busy girl this weekend and finished one baby quilt in its entirety (Catriona's) and got one finished apart from binding (Biff's - which is now finished and in the drier as I type.) I took the opportunity to visit Miz Catriona and Baby Ben this afternoon when Chook finished school. He is a wee darling (dark haired, too!) and she *loved* her quilt. It was the black and red funky one - so her! I knew she'd dig it. I even named it after her; it is now known as the "Yummy Mummy" quilt.

I forgot to take a photo of it finished.

Drat and double drat.

I've texted her to see if she'll take one for me (I promised certain people a look at it finished) even though I know that she , understandably, has better things to be doing than running about after forgetful me!!! Suffice to say I was really chuffed with it (my first quilt!) and it really may have opened a whole new world of obsession for me. Ooops. *g*
